Ray Anthony Vela was born on August 1st, 1970 in San Pedro and was the son of Ramona and Joe Vela. He grew up in Wilmington, California with his 2 younger siblings Ann Marie and Joe (Joey) Vela . He attended Banning High School until his family moved to Norco, California in 1987 where he then attended Norco High School for his junior and senior year. While attending Norco High School he played football and was also on the swim team. Ray went on to work many jobs however he was most prideful in his last job as a security guard.
Ray lived to be many things in life however he always said his greatest title was Dad. He and his wife Yvonne Veronica Herrera of 25 years had established a loving home for their 4 children Nellie Rose Elaine Herrera, Rae Ann Vydell Vela, Alyssa Marie Raylene Vela, and John Paul Ray Vela. He passed his love for sports to his 3 daughters who played softball. Ray hardly ever missed a game or practice and took every opportunity to be on the field coaching and playing with his girls.
It goes without saying that Ray touched many lives and will forever be remembered for his love of oldies, gardening, playing cards, barbecuing and spending quality time with his friends and family. Ray was a devoted catholic, A beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and great uncle. Ray Anthony Vela was called home to heavens gates on February 19th, 2025 with his family by his side.
