Katherine Hutchison

December 20, 1989 — January 4, 2023

Katherine (Katie) Hutchison was born on December 20, 1989, She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the young age of 33 at Loma Linda Medical Center from complications of congestive heart failure. She is survived her parents Jennifer and Mark, her sister Erica, brother-in-law Ryan, brother Thomas, grandmother Rosie, aunts Janet, Susan, Sandra, Brenda, and Toni, uncles David, Tom, and Glen, cousins Davina, Dustin, Carly, Chad, Queenie and Kenneth, some extended family, honorary aunties Kris and Sandy, and her much loved pup Marla. Her shining spirit was met by her maternal grandparents Art and Milly, her paternal grandfather Ken, her stepfather Steve, her uncle Kenny, and her beloved honorary aunt Judy. Katherine was born with medical issues, which included a single ventricle heart and Deafness; she and was not expected to survive. Her official diagnosis was CHARGE syndrome. But she was a fighter and surpassed the expectations of her doctors. The first of her major surgeries was on Christmas day, 1989, five days following her birth. She endured many more surgeries, procedures, and hospitalizations, none of which quenched her strong and shining spirit. She graduated from Chaffey High School in 2009 and enrolled in Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga as an art major in the field of photography. She transferred to Citrus College in Azusa and graduated with her Associates Degree this last May of 2022. Katherine was a gifted photographer, and started her own business making resin art, which she sold online. She touched many lives and was such an inspiration. A strong-willed Sagittarius, she lived a rich and fulfilling life. She had a laugh that was infectious, and was stubborn, kind, and adventurous. This past year, she was the proud Maid of Honor in her sister Erica's wedding on July 4th, where she gave an ALS-interpreted brilliant and funny speech. Katherine always worried more about her family and friends than she ever worried about her own health issues. She loved to travel and have new experiences. This last November, Katie and her Aunt Janet travelled by car to spend Thanksgiving with her sister Erica and brother-in-law Ryan and family. The trip was twelve days long, and included many adventures, including Hearst Castle, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Avenue of the Giants, and two days in San Francisco. And of course, a wonderful visit and huge feast. One of the highlights of the Portland area was lunch with Erica, Ryan and Janet in a deaf-owned and themed eatery called Pah inside The Zed. The food was great, and the conversations with the Pah staff were even better. Katherine considered herself a Christian, and sometimes attended at Harvest in Riverside, but she also embraced and respected many other forms of spirituality. She was living with her Mom Jennifer, Aunt Janet, and her girlfriend when she passed.
