August 27, 1936 — April 5, 2025

Joseph G. Vega, age 88, a devoted family man and pillar of his community, passed away on Saturday April 5, 2025 at his home in Corona, California, due to complications from kidney failure. He was born August 27, 1936 in San Antonio, TX to Ernesto and Maria Vega. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

At the heart of Joe's life was his faith and his family. He prioritized their relationship with God, well-being, and happiness, creating a legacy of warmth, support, and devotion that will forever be cherished. As a loving father, he successfully raised seven children, instilling in them the values of integrity, hard work, kindness, and faith. He also played a significant role in raising his brothers and sister, providing guidance and support throughout their lives. His influence extended beyond his immediate family, as he also shared his wisdom, care and mentorship with his close companion Isabel and her four daughters.

Joe's commitment to service was evident in his leadership roles, particularly as President of the San Fernando Lions Club, where he spearheaded numerous fundraising initiatives to support local charities. Notably, Joe was one of the founders of the Santa Rosa Credit Union, significantly impacting the community it served. His professional career as District Manager at American National Insurance and Prudential showcased his dedication, work ethic, and expertise. He also volunteered at St. Edward's soup kitchen, providing nourishment and care to the community's most vulnerable members, and selflessly maintained the church grounds, ensuring a welcoming space for worship and reflection. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, Joe lived out his faith through service and fellowship.

Joe's love for life was contagious, and he had a passion for dancing that brought joy to all who saw him on the dance floor. He cherished gatherings around the table, sharing meals, stories, and laughter with loved ones. His sharp wit and infectious humor will be remembered fondly by family and friends. As he often joked, "I need to borrow from Peter to pay Paul," his clever way of navigating life's challenges will be deeply missed.

Beyond family and community, Joe had a passion for adventure. He enjoyed escaping into nature through camping, cheering on his favorite drivers at NASCAR races, and exploring new places through travel. Family road trips across America were a cherished tradition, with Joe's infectious enthusiasm and love for nature shining through. He'd often say, "Don't sleep; keep looking at the scenery," encouraging his family to appreciate the beauty of the world around them. These experiences enriched his life and created lasting memories with those around him.

Through his generous spirit, Joe welcomed numerous foreign exchange students into his home, creating a global network of friends and fostering cross-cultural understanding. His warm hospitality made people from diverse backgrounds feel comfortable and valued, reflecting his genuine interest in others and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Joe's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he lived it out with kindness, compassion, and generosity.
