John L. Berkey, Jr.

John was born in Coalinga, CA, and grew up in Taft, CA. He graduated from Taft High School in 1954 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force. John chose to pursue a military career and attended Taft Junior College and graduated from Fresno State College in 1962. He attended Officer Candidate School at Lackland AFB in Texas and wascommissioned as an officer in the Air Force in March 1963. John proudly served both command and staff positions during a quarter of a century of service to his country. He served two tours of duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Major John Berkey retired from the Air Force in 1979. John and his family moved to Coalinga (his wife’s hometown). John served as a Coalinga City Councilman for one term in the 1990’s.

John is survived by his two sons, John III and Mark, his grandson, John IV, two brothers, Les and Kenneth, and a sister, Arlene. His wife, Georgia, preceded him in death. John was also preceded in death by his parents, John Berkey and Linda Berkey, his sister, Evelyn and brothers Robert and Richard.

Interment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery.
