In Loving Memory of Ernest “Junior” Vega 1941 – 2025
Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1941, Ernest “Junior” Vega was the third child of Ernesto and Maria Vega. Named after his father, he was lovingly known to all simply as Junior.
Junior’s early years were spent in California, where he attended elementary school in Pacoima, junior high, and part of high school in San Fernando. When the Vega family moved to Corona around 1957, he completed his education at Corona High School, graduating in 1960.
After graduation, Junior worked in restaurants both locally and in the San Fernando Valley before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. While serving, he volunteered for an extra year to attend electronics school and was assigned to the communications division. He served proudly in Vietnam, where exposure to chemical agents later affected his health. After three years of honorable service, Junior returned home as a Specialist Five, proud of his contribution to his country.
Back in Corona, Junior worked for about a decade at an aluminum manufacturing plant in Riverside before joining the Corona-Norco Unified School District, where he served for twenty-three years — starting as a janitor and working his way up to Head Custodian. During that time, he also owned and operated a car wash on Lincoln Street, demonstrating his work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
After retiring, Junior gave his time to St. Edward’s Church alongside his brother Joe, maintaining the church grounds and the Virgen de Guadalupe Chapel. He extended kindness to everyone, including helping a homeless man by offering him work and a phone — just one of the many quiet acts of generosity that defined his life.
Junior’s hobbies reflected his love for family and tradition. He was an exceptional cook, known for his menudo and salsa, both made with care and precision. He kept his home spotless, valued family gatherings, and delighted in dancing — especially at the annual New Year’s celebrations at the American Legion, where he was a proud member.
Though he never married, Junior was deeply connected to his brothers and their families, especially Wences’ family, who were like his own. He cherished family luncheons and found daily peace in his devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary.
Junior will be remembered for his humility, generosity, and strong faith. His absence leaves a quiet space in the Vega family’s heart — alongside his beloved brother Joe, who passed earlier this year.
Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew’s Church in Corona.
Rest peacefully, Junior. Your kindness and devotion will live on in all who knew you. The Vega family thanks you for your prayers, love, and memories shared in his honor.
