Donald Bud Phelps

“Donald Phelps passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the age of 83.A native of Montana, Don attended Montana State University in Billings Montana for two years and later attended UCLA after serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a corpsman (medic). He was born on the Crow Indian Reservation and grew up in the Pryor area on a cattle ranch.His parents, Alice and Bud, broke wild horses for the US Calvary. They also provided meat for the military during World War II from their cattle ranch.In 1964, he moved to Costa Mesa and spent many years working for the City of Costa Mesa and Los Angeles Unified Schools as a computer program designer. About 1985, Don moved into the real estate field.Don was friendly and funny. He always said that strangers were old friends he had not met yet, and as a result, he had many friends who will miss his smile and jokes. He was a member of several churches, and attended St. James Anglican Church in Costa Mesa for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, sons, Brian and James, daughters, Christel, Christine, Coleen and Amanda, and 9 grandchildren. A memorial service in memory for Don will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm at St. James Church at 2995 #A Airway, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Burial with military honors will occur on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 12:30 pm at the Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518. “, “”
