Dagmar Welker
OBITUARY
Dagmar Gay Welker passed away on June 23, 2024. She joins back with the Lord only after a great life of love, laughter, and learning. She grew up in Scott’s Bluff, Nebraska, and was a wonderful daughter for Howard and Elizabeth to raise. She and her sister Karen were inseparable as they grew. They were majorettes together and loved school for both the social and scholastic opportunities. She went on to Kearney State College where she met Richard. They fell in love and decided California was the place they ought to be, so they loaded up the Dodge and moved to Riverside. They both dedicated themselves to teaching and she went on to teach in Ontario. Back then, she drove local highways to get there early in the morning often taking this time to formulate teaching plans and considering what science experiments would pique the interest of her students. Every year she would enter her class in the math competitions and enjoyed seeing the kids challenge themselves and others to exceed and stretch their academic boundaries. She taught middle school science and math for 35 years…now that’s dedicated service! In that time, she also managed to raise three boys, Brad, Russell, and Bryan into adults. She was absolutely the best mother. Always present. Always interested. There was never a time (or a moment) that they weren’t absolutely sure that she would be there for them when they needed her….and three boys can be VERY NEEDY, especially when they don’t think they need help from anyone. After retiring from teaching, she joined the Riverside Bridge Club and earned Gold Master points at local games and regional tournaments. She was often the director of local games and made sure everyone was comfortable and having fun. Later, she was living the good life at Westmont Village still entertaining the gals at the lunch table with her teaching skills and knowledge. If you wish to attend, all are welcome.
